Temple of Veeshan Raid - Part 4

Now you've probably already seen the News about SI's first raid to ToV. The third trip to ToV that Sceptered Isle took was unfortunately not reported on. So therefore here is the fourth report for all to see. This one has it all, loot, death, mystery, surprise, sadness, and helpfulness. So read on and enjoy...

This map shows the route taken during the raid.

As normal the people arrived and buffing and grouping began. ToV was a bit crowded we got there. Over 160 players in the one zone consisting of [Starlight Stream], [Pretty Hangmans], [Kalavinka], [Soft Rime], [Rainbow], [Silent of Heart], and of course the [Sceptered Isle] / [Chaotic Gods of War] combo. There was a bit of concern about LAG issues and that foragers should not spam us with their eating and drinking texts. Once everyone was ready it was time to move, but unfortunately there was a communication problem between us and the Japanese guild currently in HoT. Once the Translator had been found and communication was established (the one who knew japanese words like yoro~, toyota, suzuki, mazda, yamaha, mitsubushi was not used), we went through the HoT door and ran across the big open meeting hall and through the door on the left where we made our first camp spot.

Turbulence ran off and surveyed the area, then suddenly,

Turbulence says, 'INCOMING (>'-')> a burning guardian <('-'<)'

The Burning Guardians get their name for a reason.

Sitting at the back by the door is not always a good idea. Things come through the door and whack you round the back of the head.

Turbulence says, 'INCOMING (>'-')> a racnar <('-'<)'

Kill the dinosaur...

And so the killing continued and it was generally a more relaxed feel to it that the previous raids. People seemed more attuned to what they should be doing, when to assist, and when to nuke. A good stream of death and some loot awards continued at the usual camp spot.

Next it was time for a named mob. This got people talking about big HUGE dragons but alas, it was just a small drake like creature. Red in colour and loads more HP's than any other normal one.

Turbulence tells tovsi:1, 'INCOMING (>'-')> Krigara <('-'<)'

image: relative to the report
If Wizards Flappies were as tough as this one then we wouldn't have so much trouble.

The named went down and dropped an item which is apparently useless without the other piece from killing the big boss, Dozekar. And so the killing continued...

My best so far.

Yet another red Flappy Named mob.

The killing went well from 2:30pm (GMT) until 6:00pm (GMT) which was when everyone got wiped out. Luckily a cleric managed to gate out.

Colal says, 'send tells to migar, mimmo, hesten, shadowpuma for rides back'

It was time to pick people up from their bound locations and get them all back for the mass corpse summoning.

Whilst picking up Broder from Dreadlands I was given a tell asking if I wanted to join a great AE experience group. I thought it best to reply back and say that my corpse was currently in ToV and that was my main priority right now.

Once back in ToV the summoning of corpses began. The usual routine of a summon/rez combination was carried out by Batak and the clerics. The reason for the corpse summoning and not just running back to the corpses was due to the fact that there were 3 pops in the way. Had they not been there then a simple run back would have been easy, or even a corpse dragging session.

A few people had to leave at this point and a few others joined so the groups were remade. Now the Corps guild were at the HoT entrance way pulling 2 wurms and then Dozekar. We had to wait 15 minutes whilst they carried this out so we could then open the door and get back in.

Whilst we waited we all lined up for a group picture.

SMILE =)

Once The Corps had killed their mobs and decided it was safe for us to enter, that is exactly as we did, once again following the usual path to our camp spot, killing the mobs that blocked our way.

Whilst fighting the next few mobs we had a few surprise guests arrive, first up was Bifar back from his Real Life issues.

Colal says, 'Welcome Bifar'
Colal says, 'Lets kill'
Turbulence says, 'kill bifar?'

Next person to turn up was ...

image: relative to the report
Stora.

And so the groups are altered slightly so that Stora is now the new main assist and Dahaak takes a break.

Turbulence says, 'INCOMING (>'-')> an ancient guardian wurm <('-'<)'
Stora says, 'TAUNTING (( an ancient guardian wurm ))'

... and that was pretty much it for a while. It seemed that the newly arrived Stora was going to solo the ancient guardian wurm all on her own. Everyone else was waiting for a call to assist but there was none.

Aegamin says, 'Assist?'
Stora says, 'Sorry key wasn't ready'

And soon a steady pull of beasts comes along until...

Erroll says, 'Stora dead'

... and then the rest started to fall as well. It seemed the pull and pops got a bit muddled and low mana caused a few key deaths. Soon the whole lot was wiped out.

A summon of corpses was not possible at this point due to Batak having left the raid. Colal managed to arrange the cleric of The Corps to help out and use their click cleric stick to rez people. Whilst waiting upon the rez I took a more detailed look at the first hallway. Most of the time we are rushing through to the HoT door ready to get into battle but I took the time to examine the artwork along the corridor. As you can see there is quite a good hall of fame along here. Can you recognise any of the featured dragons?

Thank you to The Corps for their help with Rezzing.

As you can see having a cleric with a click seems to make rezzing a thing of the past. In about 5 minutes everyone was rezzed, pulling their corpse out of the pile, healed, and then given KEI. The next thing that happened was a bit of a surprise. A wurm popped on the corpses and quickly the 2 guilds rushed to the attack. All those not fully rezzed and back to normal hid round the nearest wall.

Once back up and running we headed back to our camp spot, just a short way down the hall. Turbulence ordered people where to sit whilst he pulled the next few back to the spot. There was a slight confusion at this point...

Colal says, 'If name != stora, dont taunt please'
Stora says, 'No taunt?'
Colal says, 'Only for you.'

From using the /assist command it was easy to see who actually had agro from the pull. It was changing quite rapidly.

As time went on, more pulls were being killed and people were gradually leaving. Soon it was time for everyone to leave. Colal lead the way back to the stairs. A quick jump and slide across was all that was needed and the medium to large sizes were at the top of the stairs. It was however slightly harder for the shorter people.

Kirium says, 'Doh the steps.'
Colal says, 'Ok never mind, just come down into the pit.'

Colal gave his end speech whilst I prepared my TL and port spells. Now with 1 Wizard and 17 players to get out, you do the math. Thats a lot of individual requests. As quick as I could I managed to get most people TL'd to DL or to their Bind (which is kind of hard for me due to only having the TL to Bind Group spell.) I was just about to sort the last 6 people out when ...

You begin casting Translocate: Group.
Ayralin fades away.
Elgadol fades away.
Dahaak fades away.
an elder shard wyvern begins to cast a spell.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 270 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 270 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 270 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 270 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern bashes YOU for 102 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 162 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 270 points of damage.
an elder shard wyvern hits YOU for 171 points of damage.
You have been slain by an elder shard wyvern!

Luckily the last few people managed to get the end of my spell before i began to get hit. Lillan was the first unlucky one to feel the pain of death. And Colal managed to gate out before the wyvern got to him. So all that was left was for me and Lillan to be rezzed. Luckily Obbe was kind enough to gate back to the ToV entrance and we all zoned back in and made our way back to the corpses. The corpses were dragged up to the top of the stairs and rezzed there.

So from this experience I have decided not to do any personal TL requests if I am the only porter at the end of a raid and we are stood in the middle of popping mobs. If you ask for a TL you will be sent to Dreadlands. The reason for this is -
1) I don't have the Translocate spell so I can't just click you and send you to bind.
2) A TL to Dreadlands doesn't use any portal fragments (which I have to fund myself)
3) There is no danger in Dreadlands so you won't die when you get there.
4) Once you are in DL there is a choice of 4 ports (wizard, druid, wait for the luclin spires to activate, or wait for me to finish and i'll come there and port you).

Overall the raid was, once again, a great success.

After the Raid

Once again I had been awarded loot and it was time to take the gems and the item to SkyShrine to claim my prize.
