Diary of a Shadow

Shadowpuma had a week off and decided to take go and take in the sites. This report is an account of what he came across. All good and interesting stuff of course =)

Day 1

Today was an interesting day. It started out with a quick port up to Nexus then a run through the Echo Caverns on the way to The Deep where I was hopefully going to get a bit of AE (Area Effect) action. Upon getting there I found that there were just too many people there and a waiting list longer than Faydedar's body. So back out into Echo Caverns and I came across a warrior and a druid sitting there. Upon looking across the cavern I saw a HUGE beetle type creature called Fireclaw. Fireclaw was also surrounded by little beetle buddies. Upon a quick /con of everything I found that if the warrior and druid had attempted to pull anything they would pull the whole lot. Being a friendly person I offered my pulling and tanking services. I pulled, snared and tanked the little beetles until Chasmanfour the Warrior was able to taunt them off me. When all the little ones where dead it was time for Fireclaw himself...

FireClaw, pulled by Shadowpuma, killed by Chasmanfour.

Upon pulling it I soon found it was very resistant to snare and root. Soon enough the Warrior had killed it with the help of the druids heals and an ending nuke from me as it began to run off. The two others seemed to be very happy. Upon asking to see the loot this is what they showed me...

I continued my adventures over in Scarlet Desert where I proceeded to kill a few sun revenants. Soon enough it was time for the days raid. It was announced that todays target will be Vindi since he was up. Everyone rushed over to the Kael Arena as quick as they could. This attempt went a lot better than the last, half the raiding force didn't go Link Dead.

Seeing that it was important to get statistics for the fight I turned everything on and even decided to go melee for the day. What a mistake that was. First of all the log is full of... hits Vindi, stabs Vindi, kicks Vindi, misses Vindi, parries Vindi, ... and there is no way I'm sitting there and counting up how many times he was slashed for 1 point of damage. In 1 seconds time this is what appeared in my log...

Anyway, the pull was called, me being stupid rushed up close to the front to try and get everything in the log and ended up getting a big hit from Vindi.
Derakor the Vindicator hits YOU for 470 points of damage.
Derakor the Vindicator hits YOU for 300 points of damage.
Derakor the Vindicator hits YOU for 575 points of damage.
Derakor the Vindicator hits YOU for 400 points of damage.
I guess I was now on his hit list. Also, just as the first hitting party had got their hits in there was a HUGE major LAG Spike. Ouchies is all I can say. The lag didn't do much, a few people got beaten but no major deaths. Oh, apart from Dosi who was first to go down.

All continued well after that and soon the huge giant was once again face down on the floor. Loot is always a hard thing to allocate, especially when lots of major key players request it. A decision was finally made and Stizok is now the proud owner of a Vindi Breastplate. Stizok thanked everyone, walked up to the corpse, took a bow and then looted it saying...

Stizok says, 'Heh, I got the Colal look now =)'

The other item that dropped as normal was the Derakor's Head. This was awarded to Hesten so she could get a great pair of Gloves just like Rasuphas did.

Stizok, the Colal look-a-like

Still looking for action the raiding party that was left headed off to Timorous Deep where we would proceed to kill the little thing called Faydedar. The loot from this would go towards Toshikun for his epic. Everyone got there ok, even though a few were late(ish). The groups were buffed and ready for the killing.

Toshikun says, 'TURNING IN >>> INCOMING DWAGGY'
Faydedar says 'You will not evade me Shadowpuma!'
You have been summoned!
You have been slain by Faydedar!
Returning to home point, please wait...

I don't think there has been a Faydedar raid where I didn't die. I hate that stupid fishy dragon thing. Oh well =/

Faydedar was killed and Toshikun got his epic piece and then went off to go and get his druid epic. Congrats Toshi

Next with still a few hours left in the day it was decided to take a few groups up to the plane of air and kill a mob for Sumyunguyy's epic. For those that haven't been up to the Plane of Air then let me tell you, it is a freaky place. Strange things go on there. Hopefully from the following images you get an idea of what it's like.

The groups were made and the portal stones purchased from Sornita Eltern on the 3rd floor of the Library in Erudin.

Sornita Eltern tells you, 'That'll be 129 platinum 3 silver 2 copper per Cloudy Stone of Veeshan.'

The first group ported up. It just so happened it contained me. The group arrived at a spot on a floating island. I also noticed that ALL my buffs had been stripped. I disbanded from the group and was ready to gate back down to Tox when I got the message, 'This spell does not work on this plane.' Upon further instructions I was told to jump off the edge of the island and then gate back. So that is just what I did. Sheesh, is it scary !!!

Leap of Faith

Once back in freeport it was a case of gating back to Tox and then getting the next group up to the Plane of Air. I'm still a bit puzzled as to why Orcman only got to port one group. I guess being Guild Leader has it's advantages. Also having a fast PC and quick cable modem connection helps with all this zoning.

All the groups were up in PoA and it was time to get everyone some keys. The way in which the keys work is that you kill the fluttering fairies that scatter the island and loot 2 items. And when Sirran the Lunatic spawns you hand in the items to get the key to the next island and I can only presume another key that will bring you back to the start. However, it all seemed perfectly simple in theory but in practice it went horribly wrong. For some reason when Sirran the Lunatic spawned he began taking out everyone. Once again Dosi was the first to go down (I think it must be his size, or that beard of his), and then the rest of us. Luckily a cleric or two managed to camp out.

image: relative to the report
Orcman loots the two pieces to hand into Sirran. That is before he went mental !!!

image: relative to the report
The key to the next level.

image: relative to the report
I can only guess that this key takes you back to the start.

And so with everyone rezzed, and all keyed up, we proceeded up to the next level. Clear instructions were not given at this point as to ... 'take the tiny sword, put it on your cursor, click the portal'. There were a few of us confused and not knowing which key to use on what part of the portal. After a lucky guess I found myself on the next island running after the others to a windmill type of structure.

image: relative to the report
I guess this blue woman and her pet are in charge of spinning.

Well the mob was pulled and killed pretty quick and easily.

image: relative to the report
Quick, RUN, it's sumy's brother. He's found another group round the corner.

image: relative to the report
The view from the windmill across to the other islands.

With the mob soon dead and Sumyunguyy one step closer to his epic we all decided to leave (since there wasn't enough time to go and get balrogh's loot piece). Everyone was told to jump off the island and watch out for chains. Once they had zoned they could swim to the docks of freeport and get a TL from one of the wizards. All was going fine until Balrogh said that he was back at his bind point naked. It seems he had tried to fall on an Imp or something which had killed him. A corpse run team was put together and up they ported... or so I thought...

Shadowpuma says, 'inc port to air'
Kilmartagan says, 'Um wait'
Your spell is interrupted.
.. and so it was that we needed to get a coffin for the trip ..

Balrogh says, 'selling coffins on isle'
Balrogh says, 'port then'
Shadowpuma says, 'inc port to air'
Balrogh says, 'sec lol'
Your spell is interrupted.
Balrogh says, 'only small on isle'
.. and so a big coffin was needed ..

.. the big coffin was got and we were once again ready to port up when ..
Kadarn says, 'balroghs corpse is on island 1'
.. Kadarn had gone LD during the raid on Island 1. Orcman had logged him on to get him back down to Norrath ..
Kadarn says, 'wont need a necro to summon'

.. We all went along for the ride anyway ..
Shadowpuma says, 'inc port to air'
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

And so Balrogh's corpse was there waiting for us. A quick Rez, loot and a successful jump this time and the final TL's of the day were done.

As you can see, a busy first day for someone on holiday.

Day 2

Day 2 was not a very eventful day in the way of raids but I did manage to get tons of experience. At the start of the day I had just under 2 yellow bubbles. By the end of the day I had only 2 blue to go until the final DING to level 60. The fast experience was all made possible by managing to get a group in The Deep. The pulls varied from 20 to 30+ mobs. Sometimes it would get too much and we'd all die. The group consisted of 2 wizards, 2 enchanters, 1 cleric and 1 puller (in both cases a Paladin). I think wizards get the easy job, they just stand there and nuke, the clerics have the hard time of healing everyone, the puller has a hard time cause they are the ones with all the mobs after them initially, and the enchanters gain so much agro from stunning that it's hard for the wizards to overnuke and regain agro. After about 6 or 7 hours AEing in the deep it was a sad moment when the group had to depart.

Well after coming back after an hour's break I headed over to The Grey where I found Rhyae, Zarat, Allur, Venaelyan, and then soon enough Toshikun turned up to help out. The killing commenced and more experience was gained.

All was going great when all of a sudden...
Venaelyan is suffocating.
Venaelyan died.

One message and SPLAT, the necro's DMF had ended and she was dead. Quick thinking from Toshi got Ven a 60 Rez and we were back fighting once again. So necro's aren't immortal in The Grey =)

Day 3

Patch Day. Patch's always suck. especially when you read how they have changed all the things you have become accustomed to. Why have they increased the resists of mobs? I liked them weak and ready for the nuking. Oh well =/

Anyway, I started the day out expecting to Ding level 60. With only 2 and a half blue exp bubbles to get and Scarlet Desert free for me and Azolver. But because of the patch everything went horribly wrong. First there was the constant crashing to desktop. The first few times it wasn't so bad, I was sat medding. Then it went wrong again, horribly wrong. Pulled a mob, crashed, returned to game to find myself at my bind point (ToV entrance in WW. More will come clear later). Help from a friend and the lone of a 60 cleric meant that I could get a rez. Simple I thought until I left the cleric at the zoneline, I ran to go and get my corpse (invis of course), found the corpse and who should be still stood on it... The sun Revenant that killed me. He saw through my invis, began pounding on me, I gated and ended up dieing outside ToV from a DoT. So back I went again and moved my corpse up to the top platform in Scarlet Desert. Was about to rez when the servers went down. Talk about bad luck. So back I went. Rez in SD and Rez in WW. Back on track, or so I thought. Due to a change in the patch it now meant that Clerics could cause Ragefire to pop by collecting 4 pearls and combining them in a box. These pearls dropped randomly off mobs. Being a nice wizard I decided to port over to SkyFire and help out the existing groups that were there. Trying my very best it was hard not to agro mobs. Since there was no main tank as such it seemed everyone was hitting either one mob or another. No one was on the same one. Agro = summonings, summonings = getting hit, getting hit = death. Yes, I died a few times in SkyFire as well. By this time I had decided that getting to 60 was not on todays agenda. Within all the death the guild did manage to loot 3 of the required pearls. The servers soon then came down for yet another patch. A few minutes too early it seemed as people got disconnected with 10 minutes still to spare to find a safe spot. Logging back in after the 1.5 hours patch found people still alive and well. After a while after a few more kills it was time to disband and go our separate ways.

image: relative to the report
Lillan changes shape at will these days. I'm not sure who that is riding her though.

I headed back to Scarlet Desert to try 1 last time at a decent experience session. As the whole of SD was camped I decided to head over to The Grey and kill a few golems and snakes around the temple area. All was going well until I pulled a mob and accidentally snared myself and the mob. A quick root of the mob meant that I could head for the temple zoneline .... slowly. I managed to get to the entrance of the temple but what should be waiting for me? 3 rock stomper things, a skele and a golem. Someone had already trained the zone and not shouted it out. I did my very best attempt to jump for my snared life towards the zoneline. It was so close. I managed to get right to the edge when *SPLAT*, Loading, Please Wait...

Now stuck at the ToV entrance in WW without any breathing items to get my corpse back, I was at a loss. A quick check found the guild Celestial Tomb raiding in Ssra Temple. I gave a tell to one of the clerics who gave a tell to another cleric, who zoned out and rezzed by dead body. How lucky was that. After that death I thought why not try my luck in The Deep and see if I can die there some more. I got there and found Pravus Dei heading into the zone. So much for that idea.

And so the day ended with no more than 4 deaths. What a set back.

Day 4

Shadowpuma delivers a critical blast! (1059)
You gain party experience!!
You have gained a level! Welcome to level 60!

Shadowpuma's birthdate: Sat Jan 08 20:53:17 2000.
[Thu Sep 05 17:22:19 2002] Total time playing Shadowpuma: 112 days, 10 hours, and 41 minutes.

So, with my new found powers and skills of Level 60 I headed back to SkyFire where I continued to help out the guild to get pearls. It seems since yesterdays patch they have become extremely rare. Not a single Pearlescent Fragment dropped.

Well I guess we will have to keep trying until another one drops and RageFire can be made to spawn.

Day 5

Wow, what a day. Friday's always seem to be a fun eventful day for SI, and this Friday was no different. I logged in and straight away I was being invited down to The Deep for a bit of AE action. A few hours later the group disbanded but lots of exp had been gained so I was happy. Off to Scarlet Desert where I stayed another few hours until it was time for the Friday nights raid. Plane of Fear had been decided as the target. So off I went picking up a few people on the way.

image: relative to the report
Why would anyone want to go through a gateway like that?

And so the monks were sent in to scout the area. Reports came back that another group were already in there on a corpse run. So when the coast was clear the groups invis'd up and went through the gate to the west wall where we began to pull and kill.

image: relative to the report
Leoloo treads very carefully through the undergrowth.

The pulling was going successfully when the next thing we know Balrogh is going mental over a dracoliche. A big dragon type figure but without all the skin, just bones. It seems the group that were on a corpse run were also here to kill this dragon. They failed to inform us of this and then started shouting that Sceptered Isle had steamrolled Fear. The fact that the dracoliche had agro'd us was a different story. Not being prepared the dracoliche proceeded to take us out one by one.

And so with the monks and a few necro's FD a corpse run began. The other group had already got their cleric camped before they got wiped and so they got rezzed before us. I believe they didn't even bother to help us. And so with everyone rezzed and medding up we watched as the other group continued to pull the dracoliche. We all moved back in an attempt as not to agro the beast if their group got wiped again.

With my magic eye of Zomm I watched as their tank proceeded to pull, attack and eventually die. It seems his other group members were just stood there whilst this happened. Then all the other group members got wiped. And as before the dracoliche continued over and began to attack us. We engaged in a hope that we could take this beast down. The order to get the clerics camped was given and as they had camped something strange happened...

Lokeye says, '< a dracoliche > SLOWED'

And so with the beast slowed it was amazing how easy it was to take down, even with all the clerics camped. The camped began to log back in and soon the full force was taking down this beast with ease. A few deaths here and there, but overall a great attempt.

a dracoliche has been slain by Genann!

A successful victory for Sceptered Isle. It was also apparent that the single group that was here was either really great and had superb equipment that enabled them to attempt this, or they were just wishful thinkers. Rumors even went round that it was one person playing all the group characters.

Lorell says out of character, 'Applauds to steamrolling another group while in a plane'
Lorell says out of character, 'We rush pulled, you shouldn't been here in first place'
Lorell says out of character, 'But gratz for your probably best possible loot you'll get all month'
Lorell says out of character, 'God knows you need it'
Lorell says out of character, 'Well when a big raid for a guild is killing stuff from first expansion all we can do is be happy for them whent hey win'

And so the loot was allocated. I got a fantastic robe, and Dosi got a great Shield.

While all this was going on Lorell was still spamming ooc with random sentences of how we steam rolled Fear and killed Draco when we knew he was after it. Either people turned ooc off or they just ignored it.

image: relative to the report
Yay, Grats me on a new Robe. Of course when I eventually get a SkyShrine robe this one will be returned to the guild for further allocation.

And so with the hard part out the way we continued to go through the rest of the mobs within fear. Along with killing the mobs and getting more great loot I was getting some funny tells.

Llamikins tells you, 'very pretty'
Crystaline tells you, 'Grats'
Dosi tells you, 'gratz '
Mobyus tells you, 'new robe looks great bro - can pick you out of the crowd easy now too'
Skinet tells you, 'nice look'
Mobyus tells you, 'its not its orangie-red hehe'
Mobyus tells you, 'nah you are right its pink - lol'
Lokeye tells you, 'you look nice'
Crystaline tells you, 'maybe you should change your name to the pink panther'

image: relative to the report
Random faces kept appearing in my screen. First it was Rasuphas (notice me in my new robe).

image: relative to the report
Next was Aaar. Now this one filled up my whole screen.

image: relative to the report
And so more big mobs were killed. The Tempest Reaver was next in line.

image: relative to the report
Batak once again gets undressed and ran round in her undies.

Next came the big mobs...

He doesn't look too scary, but his Death Touch is a killer.

image: relative to the report
Sonkite went down pretty quick.

image: relative to the report
Then this little iksar broodling shows up. We killed it and looted the tear for Multi Quest when a shaman needs to complete his epic.

image: relative to the report
Dread doesn't look too scary, but his Death Touch is a killer.

image: relative to the report
So when is Everquest being released in Widescreen?

And so as time carried on it became late and this Wizard had a few Real Life ports to give.

Once Real Life was complete it was back to EQ where I caught the end of the raid via the chat channel. It seems even more loot dropped and quite a few people got equipped.

It was then off to the Grey where I obtained my 1st AA point. Now with Run Speed 1, I might have a chance at keeping up with everyone on dungeon raids.

And so that concludes this report of the 5 day week had in EverQuest. Level 60, 1 AA point, a great new robe. What more could a wizard for.... ah yes, great guild allies and friends that make any report possible.
